Monday Moments (on a Tuesday)

12/1/2020

Well with the holiday, the games being pushed around like a skinny 6th grader, and waiting to see the Monday night game, the 2nd installment of Monday Moments comes to you on this Tuesday, 1st of December

Tyreek Hill

15 Targets / 13 Rec / 269 Yds / 3TD
Not much else to say besides take a look at that stat line. That's what happens when you try to get after Mahomes and leave "Cheetah" in single coverage. Beyond dominant in the 1st half, the adjustment to play more coverage over the top slowed Hill down but then just contributed to the other guys on the team, namely Kelce, having a big day as well. Not sure if there is a game plan to stop the weapons on this team, go after Mahomes and he burns you for 70+ yard TDs, play zone and he'l pick you apart 8 yards at a time. Playoffs will tell but they look primed for another deep run.

DK Metcalf

13 Targets / 10 Rec / 177 Yds
Note to self: Don't try to get in the head of one of the most physically impressive WRs in the game (possibly ever) by talking trash about how he isn't on Megatron's level yet. Schwartz didn't figure that calling DK out in warmups would put a chip on his shoulder and it bit the Eagles Defense royally. While not as audacious a stat line as Tyreek Hill's, the physicality of some of the catches and run after made it clear that Metcalf came to play and wasn't having any of the talk about not being in Megatron territory yet.

Roger Goodell/NFL

This one is a reverse MVP due to the beyond embarrassing gaffes by the league this weekend. Between the still ongoing fiasco with the Steelers/Ravens game that looks more and more like the NFL trying to let Baltimore get healthy ahead of the big division game, and the lack of any competitive consideration for the Broncos being down all 4 QB's on the roster. Elway asked for an extra day to figure out some kind of game plan and was told to figure it out. Fully understanding that the NFL is doing everything it can to not only get this season in, but to avoid a Week 18 as well, I can be sympathetic to a very complex and nuanced problem. However in doing so, the ridiculous lack of consistency from team to team is impossible to ignore. Especially given the specific case of the Ravens whos strength coach intentionally was in the facility without a mask, and removed his contact tracing bracelet as well. NFL talks big about laying down punishment based on the factors involved in Covid outbreaks, but the Ravens intentionally violated protocol and are not being held to the same standard as the rest of the league.
